TO: Leadership of the American Psychological Association (APA)
We write to express serious concern regarding efforts to block recognition of the Association of Jewish Psychologists as an official ethnic body within the APA.
Claims that Jewish psychologists do not merit recognition because many “identify as white” or are not underrepresented reflect a flawed understanding of Jewish identity and antisemitism. Jewish identity encompasses ethnicity, culture, and lived experience, and antisemitism remains a distinct and persistent form of discrimination within professional spaces, including psychology.
Recognition within the APA is not simply a numerical question. It is about whether a community faces unique bias and exclusion that warrant an institutional voice. Reports of harassment and marginalization of Jewish psychologists have prompted an active investigation by the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce, underscoring the seriousness of these concerns.
We urge the APA to reject exclusionary arguments and to recognize the Association of Jewish Psychologists, affirming that no group should be defined out of protection.
Sincerely,
[THE UNDERSIGNED]
P.S. Please share this letter with friends and colleagues to amplify this call and ensure that APA does not discriminate against Jewish professionals.
